Notes

• This is a 2 CD-R set, recorded either via DAT or MD. Sound quality is on a par with "Wolfgang Attack-Burning of Osaka 98". There's a slight bit more echo, but other than that it sounds the same as "WA".
• The show begins with with a fade-in of the Aerosmith tune "Train Kept-a Rollin'" before the announcer asks "Nagoya Japan! Good Evening, are you ready Nagoya? Will please you welcome from Los Angeles...the mighty... Van Halen!!!" They open with a very thunderous version of "Unchained". You can feel the energy emit from the speakers.
• During the opening break of "Mean Street", the band stops playing and you can hear the audience laughing and yelling. Gary chooses at a somewhat quiet moment to say "Kon Ban Wa, Nagoya!", which means "Good Evening" in Japanese. The audience greets him with a very enthusiastic response, and onward proceeds Van Halen into "Mean Street".
• The title of this disc is odd, and the reason why is because of this: At exactly :53 seconds into Track 5, "When It's Love", the band runs into sound problems, and it quicky escalates into a more serious one. At 1:10 they stop altogether, as the audio problem gets to be too much to continue the song. Feedback of major proportions overpowers everything and forces the band to stop. You can hear Gary and someone else talking, presumably Ed, but it's unclear what they're saying. Gary then turns to the audience and says, "Tsk, Tsk...What do you think happened?", hence the title. The crowd gets a big laugh out of that. Ed then says, "That's *not* the special effect that was planned." Gary asks everyone if they would like for them to keep on playing, and is met with enthusiastic yells of "YES!!!" He turns and tells someone, not sure who, "Don't let it happen again!" in a playful manner. The crowd laughs once again. In between all this hoopla you hear the crown yelling "Eddie!! Eddie!!" "Okay, we'll try this one again", says Gary and off they go to launch into "When It's Love" once more, hence the reason there are titles of "WIL" (1st) and "WIL" (2nd). Of interest here, you can hear what sounds like a velcro strip being adjusted.
• "Why Can't This Be Love" is played with great fervor, but not before Gary ask the crowd if they want to "hear something really old". If you listen closely, you can hear the audience singing along to the chorus quite clearly. They also get very excited when Mike takes his turn to sing his line.
• Van Halen goes "back to the old school", as Gary says to Ed, and "Romeo Delight" starts right up. The song segues into Al's drum solo towards the end.
• Mike says the same thing he said the previous night in Osaka prior to starting "Somebody Get Me A Doctor", "Nagoya! Let's see if we fuckin' rock!" At the end of the tune, Ed yells out "MIKEY!!!" and Gary yells out "Somebody give that boy a shot of sake!"
• Ed's solo in the middle of "Year To The Day" is long, and somewhat interesting. He takes some chances on a lot of the chords and does quite a bit of improvising. It's not the standard Ed solo we've come to know in the last few tours. Good job, Ed.
• The ending to "Right Now" is long and beautiful, with Gary using his "I've got the world on a string, I've got the string around my finger" phrase.
• Once again, Gary yells "Domo! Good night everybody!" like he did the night before in Osaka before the band goes into "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". The crowd is very into this song. Clapping is heard throughout the tune, and the audience sings the title right along with the band loud and clear.
• Though "Dirty Water Dog" was released as a single in Japan, and played at 2 other dates during the Japan leg, the band chooses to encore with "Josephina", rather than "Dirty Water Dog" for some reason.
• "Once again Nagoya, you've been a very beautiful audience tonight", Gary says as they intro "Panama" with the Everybody Wants Some" teaser. Judging by the amount of shouting and hollering, "Panama" is the crowd favorite and enjoys the evening's biggest response.
• There's a considerable amount of lapse in between "Panama" and "Jump" before they finally decide to play. Mike heightens the songs mood with a witty "Hey! I just shit my pants! Come back!" That's our Mikey.
• The disc ends with Gary saying "Domo Arigato, Nagoya", and then the venue announcer instructing the crowd how and where to disperse, all in Japanese.
• In summary, this disc is outstanding. As previously stated, the quality is comparable to the Osaka show. Graphics are beautiful, with the cover acting as a mirror image of the boys. Superimposed on the photo of the band is "VAN HALEN What Do You Think Happened? Oct 24th, 1998 Nagoya Rainbow Hall". The actual title is written in the same circus-type font as the font on the "3" disc. There were some hardcore Van Halen fans in the audience that night, evidenced by the excitement at the beginning of each song and all the hollering throughout the entire show. Once again, as with "Wolfgang Attack", there are no other graphics or pictures other than what's on the front and back covers.
• The two discs are black with a picture of the whole band at the top of each disc. Some sets mof these discs are listed in the wrong order, i.e, Disc 1 is really part two of the concert and vice versa.
